Coronavirus lockdown has led to a lot of increase in solar power output which is very important for the industry of solar energy. This helps save a lot of electricity made using natural resources. The ongoing Covid-19 lockdown and stay at home policies have a positive effect on the environment around us.
Researchers have been able to show that clear skies had a measurable impact on the output of the solar photovoltaic cells. In India, there has been an 8% increase in the power output from solar power installations in Delhi. The lockdown has actually helped to keep the pollution levels at an all-time low now. This is mainly because humanity is currently under bars and there is not a single life outside.
Research shows Solar Energy gains after Coronavirus lockdowns
Nature is finally able to breathe fresh. The effect will be applicable to solar installations worldwide, however, it is going to be very difficult to understand if the effectivity of the solar energy will still remain the same once the lockdown is lifted. However, as long as it lasts we get to experience fresh air.
Tonio Buonassisi, MIT Professor of mechanical engineering published the research reports in the journal named Joule, along with fellow scientist Ian Marius Peters. The researchers are still studying solar photovoltaic cells to investigate the effect that air pollution has on solar panels. The solar panel outputs are currently very high as dirt particles are at an all-time low in the atmosphere and the solar cells can absorb it all.
In India, Delhi observed a 10% reduction in the solar power output when the pollution levels were very high before the lockdown. However, after the complete shutdown, the solar energy output is very high in the city. The coronavirus is apparently very positive as far as the nature around us is concerned, and the environment is completely pollution-free.
